With a strong and growing client base in Kent and the South-East, Fiscale was keen to offer a locally based service. Hannah is backed by central support from the head office in Haverhill, including access to a team of tax professionals, led by three Chartered Tax Advisors.
Over the last sixteen months, Fiscale has extended the original client base in Kent, by working with its partner network and marketing locally.
Hannah, has been involved with R&D Tax Credit since 2003. Following previous roles at BDO as a Corporate Tax Manager and for Grant Thornton as a Corporate Tax Associate Director. Following this Hannah started her own accountancy practice in 2015. When the opportunity arose to head up a new regional office for Fiscale, Hannah was only too happy to return to R&D Tax Credit.
An increasing client portfolio and workload led to the appointment of Lydia Snow as a Claims Assistant in February 2018. After leaving Chatham Grammar School Lydia worked for several local businesses. She gained valuable insight into the importance of research and development in the new product development process with an engineering company.
The team expanded further in September 2018 with the recruitment of two additional Claims Assistants, Jessica Vick and Tilly Clarke. Jessica had been working part time whilst studying for her Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and was keen to put her new qualification into practice.
Tilly completed her A Levels at Fort Pitt Grammar School in Chatham and has been taken on under the apprenticeship scheme. Tilly will be able to further her education whilst earning a salary and gaining valuable business experience.
With the full support of Fiscale, Lydia, Jessica and Tilly are all studying for the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) Level 4 qualification.
Hannah comments “It has been a fantastic start for the Kent office. The business has really taken off, which is why we have recruited another three people. I am delighted that we can provide local employment and apprenticeship opportunities as well as helping local businesses to access a valuable tax relief.
The office now has 45 clients and has helped them to benefit from over £1.7 million in R&D Tax Credit relief. Although this is really positive news there are still far too many companies in the South East who are eligible for R&D Tax Credit but who are missing out on, what is effectively, free money from HMRC.
“According to the Business Population Estimates published in October 2018, there were 874,000 businesses in the South East region. The latest statistics reported by HMRC on the number of R&D Tax Credit claims received so far for the period 2016-2017 in the South East is 6,300. That’s not even 1%!
“The Kent office is part of a business that has submitted over two hundred R&D Tax Credit claims in 2018. Since 2014, Fiscale has helped clients recover more than £30 million in Corporation Tax refunds.
“We are looking forward to helping more local companies to take advantage of this incentive and to expanding our team locally.”
